Emily Dickinson

A word is dead
When it is said
Some say.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

  3. I love this poem because it is thoughtful. Some words do linger a long time and cannot be forgotten. So we need to be so careful with them. Did you write it? I bet you did.

  5. As I understand the art of language, Emily Dickinson is right. A word dies when it falls out of use.

  6. Depends on the word. Sometimes one has to eat one's words ... pizza!

    God bless.

  10. So true. And worth thinking about.
Words can heal but also can kill...

  11. I happen to agree with the second part of the quote, namely: "I say it just begins to live that day".
After it's uttered, a word has a certain impact on things, and life just begins for it.

a word is like a piece of bread, being eaten by those who are hungry.

  15. You're right, Sandi. I think words are powerful, and they spark life the moment they leave our lips. That's why it's important to think before we speak. I need to work on that. : )

    just like seeds

we have to sow them carefully without spilling out them here and there

we reap the crop in the field of life step by step
