Almost Christmas

Matthew 2:1-6

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,

“Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?

For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

"'And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

  1. Oh my...Almost Christmas indeed! I love this verse and that these "wise men" traveled so far and for so long to see the King of kings. They were certainly men of great vision and faith to continue to follow that star...and to stay true to their mission. God was guiding them, and He still guides us today. Thank you for this post...even though I really am not quite ready to think about Christmas just yet...LOL.

  3. Oh Yes, Christmas is coming! This is a special verse, Sandi. It is my favorite holiday, and I couldn't resist today when I saw some Peppermint tea - I had to buy it! : )

    Have a restful weekend.

  4. The Christmas Story, the most beautiful story ever written. I love Christmas, not the worldly part, the spiritual part. It's a very special time of year.

  14. Hi Sandi,
I have to say, I am not a celebrator of the 'christmas' that is about 'Santa', as all it seems to be about is giving expensive presents to children - many of whom tell their parents what they want these days. Hardly anything is spoken about the birth of our Saviour. It is the shops which benefit from the 25th of December, making millions from what they sell regarding that day. I have a card on my desk right in front of me as I am typing this called 'Wise men came'. It is one which I made years ago and inside is a poem regarding what the birth of Jesus was all about. That is what I try to encourage people with on the 25th of December. As I have said in one of my previous posts - the word Santa can be shuffled around and turned into the word Satan, and this is what I believe the spiritual enemy is capable of doing to distract all from the truth at that time of the year.

    1. It is strange how the holiday has been transformed from "now you are free" to "now you are a slave to debt and shopping." Sort of perverts the entire meaning.

    2. Sadly I think the commercial aspect of Christmas is winning. Even as an agnostic I think that is very wrong.

  15. Those parts about giving birth to Jesus are my favourite in the Bible, I think. I love Christmas ☺

  16. We have changed Christmas up so much in the last few years-gotten away from generous giving to giving from the heart instead. Instead of big ticket items-small things that speak of love for the individual. We celebrate Christmas for the real meaning-compared to what we did years ago. Blessings- xo Diana

  17. Christmas...it will be here before we know it.

Even now, it is such a good time to focus and prepare our hearts on our Savior's birth.
    Hallelujah, what a savior!

So nice to visit with you this evening ♡
