A light for the Gentiles, Glory for Israel

 

Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

    Is he referring to Jesus at birth and his dual role as light and glory?

      Yes. This is when the infant Jesus, Yeshua, was brought to the temple to be dedicated. Simeon had been promised by God that he would see the Messiah in his lifetime and he knew that's who Jesus was/is.

    Beautiful! I once had beautiful, poignant Christmas cards with a painting of Simeon weeping holding Baby Jesus, the painting by Ron DiCianni, the emotion is so vividly portrayed. Also...the song by Michael Card, 'Simeon's Song' is a longtime, most definite favorite...It's beautiful as well.
