Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
Luke 2:28-32
A wonderful and meaningful quotation from the Bible. Thank you Sandi.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and God bless you always.
The true light for all. God bless Sandi.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting with the Bible, you read it several times, but there's always something you missed. In this case something beautiful, true and relevant for us all. T
ReplyDeleteIs he referring to Jesus at birth and his dual role as light and glory?
ReplyDeleteYes. This is when the infant Jesus, Yeshua, was brought to the temple to be dedicated. Simeon had been promised by God that he would see the Messiah in his lifetime and he knew that's who Jesus was/is.
DeletePerfect post for the day after Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYes, He is the Light of The World.
ReplyDeleteFitting for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I once had beautiful, poignant Christmas cards with a painting of Simeon weeping holding Baby Jesus, the painting by Ron DiCianni, the emotion is so vividly portrayed. Also...the song by Michael Card, 'Simeon's Song' is a longtime, most definite favorite...It's beautiful as well.
ReplyDeleteI had never seen that painting before, Amelia. Thanks for telling me about it!
