And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
Luke 22:14-20
Lovely scripture, and lovely picture Sandi. Me and my friend in Wales take communion over the phone every Sunday. God bless.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you too, Brenda.
DeleteThursday! Maundy Thursday..
ReplyDeleteIn the Catholic Church, the ritual washing
of feet is now associated with the Mass of
the Lord's Supper, which celebrates in a
special way the Last Supper of Jesus, before
which he washed the feet of his twelve apostles...
The foot-washing ceremony takes place on the
Thursday before Easter in Christian tradition,
and is meant to re-create Jesus Christ's washing
the feet of the 12 disciples, highlighting his
humility and love for all...
And to think...
Peter said, “You shall never wash my feet.”
And..Jesus answered, “If I do not wash you,
you have no part in me.” Amen!
I see Peter's point. The feet thing freaks me out.
DeleteLovely thought on this Maundy Thursday...many things to reflect and pray on my friend. Have a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda 🌸
DeleteAn ideal secret dinner. From a historical point of view, Jesus and the apostles did not have a table...
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
DeleteYour faith is strong, Sandi.
ReplyDeleteHe holds me.
DeleteI lost comments, so I made a short one that I think you got. This about the table. Historically, no table is so interesting because the entire world has been looking at that table for so long. Remebering pictures of Roman dinner parties at the time, they were indeed all sitting on cushions eating grapes (well, other things too, of course).
ReplyDeleteIt is funny. There's this famous table that never was? 😂
DeleteAnd all looking very European, among the many elements Leonardo put into that painting. You wonder what he'd make of all the work that's gone into preserving it.
DeleteWilliam, I wonder if he would be surprised we still remember him and appreciate his work.
DeleteI hope he would. There was an exhibit here looking at his paintings, inventions, creations, and concepts through the lens of scientific analysis. I was fascinated.
DeleteIt is incredible all the things he accomplished. I'm sure, as a fellow Trekkie, you remember the episode where Kirk meets him and he is an alien who has portrayed many people across much of time. Explains a lot!
DeleteDear Sandi!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy this day with your family and friends.
Have a beautiful day:)
Thanks, Lucja-Maria!
