So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.
Yet he is actually not far from each one of us...
Acts 17:22-27
Especially with The Holy Spirit...
ReplyDeleteNot a very long message, but there is so much in it!
ReplyDeleteHe is right there, right there.
ReplyDeleteAmen, amen.
DeleteThe author of the altar expressed his religious freedom.
ReplyDeletebeing religious and being christian, i googled "christian" and it is clear to me what that means. i do not believe in organized religion, i am kind, good hearted and giving to others. i have a strong moral compass and i like who i am. for me that is enough. i am happy that people have a strong faith. have a great week sandi!!
ReplyDeleteChristian simply means a sinner saved by grace.
DeleteDebbie, I'm curious. Did you grow up in a religion or belief? I ask because you googled Christian. I would have thought most people in the USA have known or grew up around it. Well, maybe not. So I am wondering what was around you and how all of this looks to you.
DeleteI grew up going to church every sunday, for my entire young life. my father claimed to be a good christian but he was a very unkind man. i did not agree with the example my "Christian" parents set for myself and my siblings. i googled the meaning of "Christian" to see what the formal meaning is. Google says "Christianity is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. It is the world's largest religion, with about 2.6 billion followers as of 2020 estimation".
DeleteThanks, Debbie. Are you having trouble commenting? It seems I get a few more unknown or anonymous comments than I used to. I was wondering if I had asked you that question before and now reading your answer I remember we have talked about this previously. I'm sorry your father was like that. I can understand how that would affect your feelings about Christianity even now. Thanks for coming back and responding. It's good to see you even if we don't see things the same way.
Deletehi sandi...i am having trouble with my comments, sometimes i realize it, sometimes not. i have read that many people are having trouble in that area. we have talked about this before. one of my christian traits is being honest. i read all of your posts but i do not always agree, still it is good to share our thoughts and learn from each other!!
DeleteYes! 🙂 On that we agree.
DeleteVery nice, thanks for sharing this with us.
ReplyDeletePraise God! He is not far from each one of us.
ReplyDeleteAmen. As for me, nearness to God is good.
Blessings to you Sandi❤️
But for me, it is good to be near God. I have made my Lord Adonai my refuge. So I will tell of all Your works. Psalm 73:28 TLV
Amen! My God is my refuge, and my strength, and my help in times of trouble...He never leaves me nor forsakes me. xxoo
ReplyDeleteHi Sandi, God absolutely does not live in a house made with hands, He is Spirit, and if we have been re-born of His Spirit through Jesus - His Word, then He is with us wherever we are. God bless.
ReplyDeleteNot one i am familiar with.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandi! (Google is giving me a hard time commenting here - I'm Lin from Slow Food - Healthy Food) I just stumbled upon your blog and would love to know more about your faith journey! It seems you have Jewish as well as Christian connections.
ReplyDeleteI recently heard of a Messianic Jewish Christian congregation that meets Saturday mornings not far from where I live and I hope to check that out someday soon. I'm blessed to be part of an Evangelical Free Church congregation 4 blocks from my home, that was SO wonderful to find.
I moved to Duluth, MN in 2016, from a small Wisconsin city that had churches with very old school traditional, doctrine focused, man made slants on everything, which only keep us separate from other believers and divided in the eyes of the world.
To move to a city like Duluth with so many wonderful churches was an incredible breath of fresh air, spiritually speaking, and showed me what 'church' could be in our lives as a connecting point for growth through Christ, and service to one another. So glad I found your blog!!! 🥰
Lin,
DeleteGood to see you!
Yes, I attended a Messianic Jewish congregation for about five years in the 90's. I was newly saved, though I grew up attending church, and that was where the Lord led me. I was working and finishing college at the same time, so I did not attend all of the events, and so I still had/have much to learn about the Feasts of the Lord and the Jewishness of Christianity. Since then I have attended Evangelical churches.
I may be Jewish way back in my family tree. Not sure, but it looks that way. I don't think that matters, it's just interesting considering the Lord led me to a Jewish congregation and I was not even aware of our family tree at that time.
It's good to see you! I pray the Lord will led you to just the right place. 😄
Shalom,
Sandi
P.S. I love the way you spell Lin.
