The Living Bones

Ezekial 37:1-6

The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord GOD, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the LORD.”

There are people in our world made only of bones. They are like other people, but not like other people, not like the living ones. They whisper, scream, speak. No one answers. Does anyone hear them? They move aimlessly. They long to be heard or seen, that someone among the living would reach out and notice them or make any kind of contact at all. Bones, but life can enter them. Life itself calls out to them.

I hear it. Now you hear it too.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

  1. Yes, there are many lost souls walking around, wandering aimlessly without hope. Jesus is the ONLY answer to their questions, the ONLY ONE who can fill their emptiness with His peace and joy. May we be His light in the world to shine out His love to others every day. Thank you for this post. (((hugs)))

  2. I have seen people who are alive, but not alive. It's really sad.

  3. Open their eyes, open their ears, dear LORD, so they may repent and believe and be saved.

  4. These bones can live - with the Spirit of God! This passage always brings that old song to mind; Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones. Now I hear it in my head. :)

  5. PS - compared to what was: unfortunately, what was built before was destroyed, what is left is poorly maintained, and what was built has a limited term.

  6. Bones. The stuff of life that gives us structure and movement. But if we don't maintain the health of the bones, the body suffers. And, the spirit suffers all under the weight of struggle.
