What Were They?

They obeyed a house of cards. From it came their orders, their worries, and all of their concerns. This is what needs to be decided. These are the questions and these are the answers! Everyone knew it was a house of cards. They even made jokes about it. But no one looked elsewhere. No one dared. They thought it was the only place that could affect change. The only place that could help them, fight for them. What would they do without the decrees coming down from the king of hearts and the queen of doom. How would they know what to do?

One day a card fell. It was pushed by the wind, or more specifically, a breeze, the kind that is too light to be expected, but pushes one thing into your field of vision and stops you in your tracks. It took out a lesser card, a small two, but it shook the whole house and the upper cards went next. The whole monstrosity caved in an instant, toppling with the force of a world crumbling. And then no one could look anywhere but at the wind. It was just getting started.

It took out other things too. Every. Thing.

The mountains fell. The stars fell from the sky. Two things remained.

What were they?

  1. I started this so long ago I don't remember what the two things were going to be. Any guesses?

  2. Question: If the wind took out everything, how can two things be left? I have no clue what these two might be, but I sure enjoyed reading about the house of cards.
    Blessings!

  3. Hello, I am not sure what could be left. It sounds like our world is crashing down around us. Scary! Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!

  6. I agree with Martha's comment and her question to you. Interesting. I like to stand on the promises of the Lord. I appreciate the scriptures you've quoted in previous posts. Every blessing Sandi.

  7. Sandi, I see the house of cards as a symbol of something. I am unsure of what. This is a great beginning to a story. Peace and blessings to you and yours.

  10. And then no one could look anywhere but at the wind. It was just getting started.

This line makes me think of creation...the `spirit` hovered over the darkness , (Genesis 1) and the `Spirit` in Hebrew is `Ruach` which means `wind`. We are getting ready to scroll back the Torah to the `beginning` to Genesis 1, where there was `nothing` except darkness, formlessnes and yet there were always God and His Son (God`s Word , with Him in the beginning..and before) , and ...the Holy Spirit, the wind:)) I was thinking about this this morning and then read your post so it spoke to me in that way! Blessings! Let there be light!!♡The Light of Yeshua, Jesus , and may we shine our lights today, thanks for shining yours and sharing it!!

  14. Lovely post, and I'm so grateful that you posted a comment on LAWN TEA today, so that I might follow over to this small, very important lesson your words evoke. The first two words to come to mind after your gentle, powerful question are LOVE and HOPE.

Even after reaping the whirlwind, I believe these two would remain. We can certainly see them shining after the recent storms and havoc which struck (and spared) several members of our own family.

  16. Hmm,
The house of cards is, after all, unstable.
    So it has to be?

  17. Love and hope for our humankind. An evocative read Sandi, thank you. And now I am going to read it again.

  18. Hi Sandi, I like what Denise in VA said, “And now I’m going to read it again.” This is what I love about your posts. Almost every time I stop and reflect on things for a while. Re-read it, maybe twice! :-) I also like a lot of the answers here: God, love, hope, God’s rules, our souls … These are good possibilities. I will go with God for sure. It’s the other one I’m not sure of. Great post, Sandi!

  19. very thought provoking post! The two things that remain are actually three. Faith, Hope, Love. (or if it HAS to be two: God and His Word).

  20. My instant reacting to this was faith and love, but I see Faith (above) got there before me. You write so beautifully.
