WW2 History: The Spirit of the Elbe

I just saw a snippet of this on the news. President Trump and President Putin issued a joint statement today. I saw many news articles about it, but had to hunt to find the full text. Interesting!

Joint Statement by President Donald J. Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia Commemorating the
75th Anniversary of the Meeting on the Elbe

April 25, 2020, marks the 75th Anniversary of the historic meeting between American and Soviet troops, who shook hands on the damaged bridge over the Elbe River.  This event heralded the decisive defeat of the Nazi regime.

The meeting on the Elbe represented a culmination of tremendous efforts by the many countries and peoples that joined forces under the framework of the United Nations Declaration of 1942.  This common struggle required enormous sacrifice by millions of soldiers, sailors, and citizens in multiple theaters of war.

We also recognize the contributions from millions of men and women on the home front, who forged vast quantities of war materials for use around the world.  Workers and manufacturers played a crucial role in supplying the allied forces with the tools necessary for victory. The “Spirit of the Elbe” is an example of how our countries can put aside differences, build trust, and cooperate in pursuit of a greater cause.

As we work today to confront the most important challenges of the 21st century, we pay tribute to the valor and courage of all those who fought together to defeat fascism.  Their heroic feat will never be forgotten.

Have you noticed?

These are strange days.

Some things I have noticed:

When I read the Bible the verses are closer. What were once words in a book became words in my heart when I got saved almost thirty years ago. But now they are words hanging in the air an inch in front of me. Not hanging. Hanging sounds purposeless and haphazard. I mean placed. Do you know what I mean?

Nature is more alive. Monkeys are taking over empty cities they say. We have no monkeys here in the Southeastern USA, but the animals we do have seem to be freer. They are moving around more, like they hear music being played just for them. Maybe of a celebration we've all been invited to. Do you hear that?

Are the stars brighter in the sky?
Or maybe the sky is less cluttered now.

People are listening more closely.
To eachother. To the wind. To the silence.
Are you?

Do you notice the change? What is it like for you?

Who Are You?

Many
A great multitude
No longer looking down at the dust
But up
Higher than before
It's Jesus
Can you believe it?

Every tribe
Every nation

Are you Every?
You are Every too.

Hebrews 8:11

And they shall not teach,
each one his neighbor
and each one his brother,
saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them
to the greatest.

Great Hope

The sun came up over the horizon. It was glowing. The clouds, the blue, every thing. It all changed that day. That beautiful morning all of it was swept away and, in its place, stood beauty. Cloudia said it was even more beautiful than Hawaii. Sandi didn't quite believe her, but it was true.

This Passover

Behold! The Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world!

Come Walk With Me

If you have no where to walk, come walk with me.

From around the world:

Jeevan is in India
Shayndel is in Japan
Pamela is in Florida
Łucja-Maria is in Poland
Cloudia is in Hawaii
Baili is in Pakistan

And we are all locked down. What do you think about that?
It is astonishing to say the least. We've had pandemics before, some worse than this, but we have never shut everything down.
The Internet is a glorious invention. It takes us on walks together.
It provides us with information. It provides us with misinformation.
It is sometimes hard to tell the difference.
But isn't it strange? Has the whole world ever done the exact same thing at the exact same time? Yes, I am looking for answers. No, I don't have one for you. I hope you have one for me!
