The Flower Child and Jesus

This is a video by the documentary filmmaker David Hoffman.
If you get a chance to watch his channel on You Tube, it is full of these gems. He somehow inspired a diverse group of people to talk about their deepest feelings and life-shaping experiences.

This is the story of a young woman talking about her life in the 1960's and 1970's. It was recorded in 1990. She says something interesting that struck me. She says she did not adopt the culture of born-again Christianity because she still enjoyed nature and health foods. I am not quite sure what she meant by that. I know believers who eat healthy and love nature. Maybe things were different when she was talking about this. I really don't remember. Enjoy!

Hope for the Hungry Heart

"Everybody's got a hungry heart," goes a Bruce Springsteen song. In it he tells the story of a man with a hungry heart who has good things in his life but destroys them by running off with his still hungry heart. It is crushing. Horrible. Then the song ends.

What was he hungry for? You know I'm going to say God
because that's what I always say. Purpose, meaning, to be loved undeservedly, unconditional appreciation, understanding.

Yesterday, I saw a photo online of a young model who had the word "misunderstood" tattooed on his face. We all want to be understood, accepted, heard. God loves you. He is what you are looking for. But He may not be what you want Him to be. He may be holy and demanding. He may be loving and kind. He may want something from you, from us, like obedience. He may have stories of His own to tell us. They may not be what we expect to hear.

But He is real. He really calls to you, to us. Do you hear Him?

John 8:12

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying,
“I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me
will not walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.
