Alexander Solzhenitsyn Quote

"More than half a century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of older people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia:

Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened."

"Since then I have spent well-nigh fifty years working on the history of our Revolution; in the process I have read hundreds of books, collected hundreds of personal testimonies, and have already contributed eight volumes of my own toward the effort of clearing away the rubble left by that upheaval. But if I were asked today to formulate as concisely as possible the main cause of the ruinous Revolution that swallowed up some sixty million of our people, I could not put it more accurately than to repeat:

Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened."

  1. I see you're attracted ro russian topics.
Solzenitzin's conclusion is the right one, no doubt about that.

  3. There are consequences for ignoring God. These are great words. We are watching Catherine The Great and learning a bit more about Russia. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

    1. It is just amazing the things that happen in our world. Why does one place rise and another fall, why do some escape....

  6. Powerful quote of Alexander Solzhenitsyn who spent several years away from Russia and lived in America. He had his little private chapel where his family and he prayed every day. He is absolutely right that injustice happens when people forget God.
Thank you Sandi, for this beautiful post!

  10. I think most of the USA has also forgotten God. Sad

  11. We can say the same thing about what we see going on here in the USA. A former Sunday school teacher of mine said it several times over the years.

  12. Dear Sandi, I am in agreement with what this great writer said. However, the problem comes when people choose to interpret their Scriptures--be they the Koran or the Christian Bible or the Hebrew Bible in a way that is selective and divides the believers into them and us. Peace.

    1. Ephesians 6:12- For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Dee, I agree with you that people are not meant to be divided into us and them. I would say that is because our enemy is not flesh and blood.

God loves them, and us, and me. He loves you. That is why He sent His son.

John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world.

Your comment is heavy on my heart. "Their scriptures, their interpretations"...but you (and l) are interpreting as well.

Matthew 10:34 says: Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Strong words. Jesus does divide us. This does make us different. The way you wrote "their scriptures" hurts my heart because...Dee, what if you're wrong?

    2. Dear Sandi, thank you for your thoughtful reply. The truth is that all of us and each of us can be wrong. Perhaps we all "own" some part of the whole and absolute Truth. Peace.

  13. I agree wholeheartedly with this quote. Much of the world has turned their backs on God. May he have mercy on us all. Blessings, Betsy

  15. Yes, men have forgotten God. And God replied: Thy will be done!

    God bless.

  16. I don't think man fully understand how bad it'll get, the further they separate themselves away from our Father. Man, even sinful man, now basks in his presence and enjoys the coalescing and covalent bond of God's power, even though they are unaware. I believe that the fire of hell, gnashing of teeth, taught be Y'shua/Jesus, and the earth and universe disappearing in a fervent heat, taught by Peter, is the result of God withdrawing himself away from this Space-Time, in the end. Your thoughts?

    1. I don't like the thought of God withdrawing Himself.... it hurts my heart. I do believe His presence is here in this present world. I can't imagine one without Him and have a hard time understanding why anyone would choose that.

    2. I know. I agree. Especially the ones who have felt his presence, then have turned away. I can believe anyone can truly experience the Spirit of God, then not pursue. It's truly sad.
