Passover Seder

Luke 22:7-16

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread
on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying,
“Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”

“Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.

He replied,

“As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”

They left and found things just as Jesus had told them.

So they prepared the Passover.

When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.

And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again
until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

  5. I, too, was able to see the painting in Milan a few years ago. No photos allowed, of course. I'm amazed at all Jesus conveyed on that night...
I would like to experience a Seder some time...

    1. Some churches do Seders now. Also, Messianic Jewish congregations if you want the Jesus perspective. Or you can do your own! :) It's fun. You need a plate of items for symbolism and you can find the prayers and four questions online.

    2. "Why is tonight like no other night?"

"Because once we were slaves, but now we're free."

When I heard this said in Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ it took my breath away. It is one of the questions from Passover.

Wonderful painting by Leonardi da Vinci.

  7. " ... a man carrying a jar of water will meet you ..."

In those days only women did this task of fetching water. (Woman at the well). So it would have been very unusual for the disciples to find a man waiting for them, as Jesus said.

    God bless.

  9. Dear Sandi, the novel I'm polishing right now has Jesus, whom I call by his Jewish name--Yeshua--as a main character. Peace.

  10. What a marvelous supper that was. Can you imagine being there? I know we would have been just as clueless as the disciples were...but if we knew then what we know now...what would we have done differently? Good thought...
