Who is This?

For you are our Father,

though Abraham does not know us,

and Israel does not acknowledge us;

you, O LORD, are our Father,

our Redeemer from of old is your name.

Isaiah 63:16

Who is this that Abraham doesn't know

and Israel doesn't acknowledge?

  1. Please let me know. I think I remember he talked about Moses, but my memory is not very good these day, so the details escape me. But he's definitely my most favorite prophet, the one I read the most.

    1. I'm not sure either. I think it sounds like people redeemed by the Lord who are not in the family of Abraham or Israel. But I am looking for the answer too. I'm sure there is some expert online and probably it's answered somewhere. I should look.

  4. My hubby and I were just looking this up in a few commentaries. Romans 9:6 says "Not all Israel is Israel". The commentary felt the it meant that the children of Abraham and Jacob (Israel) were not all children of God, but for the chosen remnant, even if those others did not acknowledge them, the Lord was their Father and was their Redeemer. Does that make sense?

  5. You may be able to figure out the answer by reading the link to the commentaries on this passage. https://biblehub.com/commentaries/isaiah/63-16.htm I won't try to answer the question because it would take too long, and I am not sure what I say would be correct. But these commentaries should be able to help!

  6. Hi Sandi,
    to me it is the born again believer, as that Word is a living word, and we are told the scriptures are discerned spiritually. God bless.
