Hannukah is called "festival of lights" - nine burning candles in a menorah. I understand from your post, that it's also called the 'festival of dedication' There's a great variety of the menorah (material, color) and even of candle shape. My favorite menorah is a tiny one made of white ceramics; it has a 'maghen david' (Star of David) painted on both sides.
Yes, that passage is from the Gospel of John, specifically John 10:22-23. It describes the time of the Festival of Dedication, which is Hanukkah, during winter. Jesus is portrayed walking in Solomon's Colonnade within the temple courts.
Wonderful candles! I read further: Meine Schafe hören auf meine Stimme; ich kenne sie und sie folgen mir. Joh 10,28 Ich gebe ihnen ewiges Leben. Sie werden niemals zugrunde gehen und niemand wird sie meiner Hand entreißen.
Lovely. Thanks for sharing this with us.

ReplyDeleteIt was probably the star that triggered the question. In ancient times, the appearance of a new star was regarded as the birth of a prominent person.
