Why?
He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.
I posted this verse today to point out that the plan of God from the beginning was salvation that came first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Jesus came for all of us. He is the Jewish Messiah spoken of in Isaiah 53. The Gentiles are grafted into the vine (Israel) but have not replaced the vine.
It's been a topic on a couple other blogs. Just wanted to explain.
Thankfully, Jesus did not die for jews alone, but for gentiles as well. We are no longer slaves to sin or death. Happy 4th of July, Sandi.
