These were my childhood basement stairs.
I bounded up them many times. Why? The boogieman, of course. I remember being scared in that house, but not always. Sometimes the dog seemed scared. Whatever was there, if there was anything, is long gone. I have a feeling one of us had been there before me. You know, one of us who casts things out in the Name of Jesus.
What was I doing in the basement all those years ago?
Washing my early 1980's Jordache jeans, of course.
I had one pair.
Fun to go down memory lane...

I had a pencil sharpener like that back in the day. :) I love the view of your house through the trees and the lane to the right makes for a regal approach.
ReplyDeleteWe had a room like that in our basement that I ran past everytime I was downstairs. It never got better though and I was glad to move out when I got married.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,

What fun memories, Sandi!
ReplyDeleteWe had one of those pencil sharpeners in my childhood home, too! Isn't it curious how time has changed our perspective? My 54 y/o son was commenting just the other day how, as a wee boy, he used to think grandpa's back yard felt like a football field.
ReplyDeleteSandi what a nice treat to see where you grew up and I adore the trees in the yard. Most likely that have even grown taller since you lived there. Ah those Jordache Jeans - I don't think I ever owned a pair but so many of my friends wore them. Bet if you still had them they would be worth a fair penny :)! Hugs
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see those bits of your childhood. I love those trees!
ReplyDeleteThe pencil sharpener took me back. We had one just like it.
I too remember the Boogie Man... sometimes I felt like he lived under my bed, when I was very young. I know my folks prayed a lot for me at night before I went to sleep. wow, I haven't thought of that in many years. Praising the Lord for release and getting rid of that enemy invasion.

I like those old style pencil sharpeners. We still have one at our church. We never had a basement until we moved to Washington State! Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteI love those pencil sharpeners, and prefer them to the electric ones, that always either burn out or grind the pencil to a nub and break the lead off. We never had a basement in the home I grew up in, as I grew up in Florida, and very few homes have a basement in Florida due to the high water table. but there have been a few basements in some of the homes we lived in as adults, and I understand the feelings that there could be something lurking in the shadows...I got really good at running up the stairs with the laundry basket! Thankfully, no boogey man ever caught me because Jesus took care of them before they could reach me. I love the pictures from your childhood home, and those trees are gorgeous...and I love that view of your house through the trees. I bet it was really beautiful in the snow! Thank you for the story. I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see a part of you.
ReplyDeleteMy childhood home did not have a basement though one of my earlier childhood friends had one and it always gave me a bit of the creeps. We have a basement at the cottage and you know... it does give a bit of that creepy feeling that I remember...but just at first. The washer and dyer connections are in the basement in that house too.
ReplyDeleteI remember jordache jeans and those pencil sharpeners too!
What a lovely post Sandi and so nice to see your childhood home. I thoroughly enjoyed your story. My mother's mother had a coal room in her basement, with an opening on the street for the coal man to pour said coal into the hole which was to be locked up when he was gone. There were no bags of coal, just loose coal unceremoniously dumped. I remember opening the door once to look down and I thought I heard something down there and slammed the door. I never did open that door again in all the years my parents and I visited.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a wall mounted pencil sharpener just like this one. To a senior like me, these stairs are a nightmare. I still can't believe I used to run down ones like this.
ReplyDeleteHello Sandi: Such memories, I wish I could go back to our first home where I grew up, sadly it is torn down, you are Blessed to be able to return and see the basement as an adult. Now pencil sharpeners are electric if anyone uses a pencil nowadays.
ReplyDeleteCatherine
I had a problem going downstairs during the nighttime when I was young.
ReplyDeleteWonderful memories, thanks for sharing.

DeleteMemories, memories.
ReplyDeleteMisty water-colored memories...🎼
DeleteSuch memories going home! I grew up in a house in upstate NY. It didn't have a basement but my aunt's home did and I spent many hours down there playing.

Memories of a happy childhood are the only thing we have left at the end of our lives.

ReplyDeleteA trip down memory lane. I sometimes think back to other houses I've lived in.

I can only imagine how nostalgic this was for you dear Sandi 🤗
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the glimpse 🙏
We don’t have basements here but in movies they seem pretty creepy lol
From road your house looks lovely 👍🥰
Yes tall trees fascinated me too always
Thanks for sharing your memories, Sandi.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Our cellar stairs also frightened me. My Mom would send me down for a jar of whatever she needed from her canned jars. I'd hold it tightly and run up those stairs as fast as I could!!!
ReplyDeleteSeems we both escaped!
DeleteNice that you got visit your old home place:)
