Hope for the Hungry Heart

"Everybody's got a hungry heart," goes a Bruce Springsteen song. In it he tells the story of a man with a hungry heart who has good things in his life but destroys them by running off with his still hungry heart. It is crushing. Horrible. Then the song ends.

What was he hungry for? You know I'm going to say God
because that's what I always say. Purpose, meaning, to be loved undeservedly, unconditional appreciation, understanding.

Yesterday, I saw a photo online of a young model who had the word "misunderstood" tattooed on his face. We all want to be understood, accepted, heard. God loves you. He is what you are looking for. But He may not be what you want Him to be. He may be holy and demanding. He may be loving and kind. He may want something from you, from us, like obedience. He may have stories of His own to tell us. They may not be what we expect to hear.

But He is real. He really calls to you, to us. Do you hear Him?

  2. Wonderful words Sandi - how true that God is God and not what we may think He should be. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs!

  3. Wow. Beautiful!

There is a lot of truth here, yes, everybody wants to be understood and has a story (usually). It's like the Josh Groban song says, everybody wants to be loved.

God is real, He is there. He desires to fellowship with us so He can speak to our hearts. He is all those things you wrote and we need that special quiet time with Him to really *know* Him. Many know about Him but do not *know* Him. ...He is there.

  5. this is beautiful sharing dear Sandi!

i agree that we put conditions for our love we have for him ,if he is being what we want him to be or do we are happy may be but if there are tests in the path of truth we are suddenly full of complains
here we prove that our love for him was not powerful than love for our "wants"
i feel blessed that i can hear him each through beat !
    blessings !

    1. Thank you, Baili! That is so rue. Sometimes the path is different, even better, than we imagined, but then we complain... ha ha... We are funny that way. Be blessed! 😊

  6. I want to be what God is, I don't want Him to be what I am. That is why I must not only 'hear Him', but act upon the Word spoken to me by Him through His Word in my situations.

  7. Oh yes...a heart that is filled with God can never be lonely. He is ALWAYS there for us, to hear our faintest cry and carry us through our difficult days. He will never forsake us, and He always understands us, no matter how difficult we may be. He knows our every need, and He is always willing and able to meet our needs, if we will just surrender to His will...which is always what is best for us. Great thought provoking post today.

"... His will...which is always what is best for us."

SO true. Sometimes I look back on the years and say, "Thank you, Lord. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

  8. He is indeed real!! There are so many people out there saying they're followers of God but they lives that says the contrary and they endorse "things" that says the contrary. It's sad that! We just pray.

  9. We have to be hungry for the right thing - priorities.

  10. I guess we are all hungry for something; yet perhaps we're afraid to admit it; or perhaps don't know what we hunger for.

What is it about this trend for face tattoos? Are they permanent or do they wash off after a while? See: https://www.standard.co.uk/insider/style/face-tattoos-celebrity-trend-justin-bieber-presley-gerber-a4360511.html

    God bless.

To me it seems like self-hate. Poor kids.

  13. Only in the words in the Bible do I hear God speak. Here's a favorite quote of ours; "If you want to hear God speak read your Bible. If you want to hear him audibly read the Bible out loud."
