“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. “For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Matthew 5:38-48
Good reminders on love in those verses!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mari.
DeleteThis is more important now than ever.
ReplyDeleteDeep breath. It is. Yes.
DeleteHe gives us hard things if we live through our flesh, does He not? It's only as we are committed to Him completely and wrapped in His love to the point that it becomes our own that we can do as He says. May He find us faithful. Thank you, Sandi, for this reminder.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I need to apologize that the comment you left for my blog doesn't show up. My phone is growing quite temperamental and it disappeared as I was trying to publish it.
That's ok. It's kind of reassuring to know technology can't do everything. 😀
Delete:) And thank you for revisiting! I was actually able to publish it without losing it.
DeleteSo true!

DeleteAlways the best words to consider and meditate on. Happy Spring to you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring to you too, Ellen!
DeleteGod is so good.
ReplyDeleteAmen?
DeleteAck!
DeleteI meant to write Amen.
Great reminder.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you, Sandra.
DeleteGod is in control...we may not think so some times:)
ReplyDeleteWe are only human. Sometimes we get distracted, but God does not.
DeleteSometimes it's so difficult to pray for our "enemies". Its hard to love the unlovable sometimes. I thank the Lord that He doesn't have a checklist. I can keep coming back to Him and start afresh.

ReplyDeleteHappy Spring!

I really like The Chosen!
DeleteI have been studying the book of Matthew since January and even though I have been told as a child or read personally the Gospels my entire life, I am even more attentive now to His words and His works in context using the entire scriptures, Old Testament and New Testament.Truly the Word of God is living and sharper than any two-edged sword. This is deep in my heart to encourage others to do that kind of Bible Study. His Word is truth and it is our life. II Timothy 2:15
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, in our study today which included the passage in
Matthew 18:15-20 in regard to a brother who sins against you and Jesus' instructions on how to handle it...he mentions in V. 17 if the man who has wronged will not hear then let him be as the heathen(Gentile) and as the publican (tax collector). Just as Jesus was telling them to love their enemies in Matthew 5 as you stated above, because even the Gentile and tax collector love their neighbor. Jesus calls His followers to a way of losing to gain. Not the world's way by any means.
Amen...so true. This comment is very timely for me personally. Thanks, Cathy.
DeleteGreat verses to remember in this time when so many are filled with hate.

DeleteIt’s very important and beautiful dear Sandi ♥️
ReplyDeleteI have same attitude towards people around me since beginning. But this is true that I don’t have to mould myself to do it. It has been in my nature so came effortlessly. It’s hard to explain such things those with fixed hard core mentality.those who hate changing themselves for being a better human being.
Loved this ♥️
Much love and best wishes 🙏
