I roasted chestnuts.
How do they look?
They taste like...like...like nothing else in this world.
A fluffy acorn? Chewy bread?
Bland. Warm. Toasty. Nice. That's the word. Nice.
The Internet said they can be dipped in mascarpone cheese. Hmm.
I salted one of mine. An improvement.
They were a delight and, curiosity cured, pretty okay.
There. That's my food review.
I think I should be doing this on TV. Does anyone watch TV anymore?

Good for you!!
ReplyDeleteDid you roast them in the oven? The first time I ate chestnuts was in hostel in Turkey, where people were roasting them on top of a wood stove in the middle of the living area. You are inspiring me to get some this Christmas, and roast them on top of my wood stove when family is here :-) They truly are very special, but humble food.
I did them in the oven.
DeleteWhen we had a chestnut tree in Ohio, I had to literally fight the chipmunks to get a few before they got them all. Every morning I would try to get outside and gather some before they got there, but they were quicker than i was. Still, I managed to get enough to roast a few and I actually chopped some up in our Thanksgiving stuffing! It was good. There's a recipe for that somewhere I'm sure, or else I don't know how I decided to do it. That was MANY years ago! Haven't seen chestnuts since.
ReplyDeleteI looked everywhere. Finally saw them at one store. These are Italian chestnuts.
DeleteInteresting, I never knew what they tasted like. Phil has tried them and says they taste like sweet potatoes, which he hates. We watch T.V. all the time!!!
ReplyDeleteGood. You can watch my show! 😂
DeleteSandi, I've never roasted chestnuts. Because I've never seen them.
ReplyDeleteThey are hard to find here too.
DeleteI guess there's not much of a call for chestnuts here, because the first time I roasted them they were rancid. The next time I knew what to look for, but still had to pick through the container to find good ones.
ReplyDeleteI've never tasted roasted chestnuts, not sure that you can get them here anyway. Hubby watches TV all the time, he can watch your show :)
ReplyDeleteNo time for TV. Too busy roasting chestnuts.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
😂
DeleteI've never eaten chestnuts, but now I want to!
ReplyDeleteOur neighbor gave us a box of chestnuts and I haven't been sure what to do with them. He boils them in salted water which is quite good, but maybe I should try roasting some. Yours look really nice.
ReplyDeleteУ нас такие не растут) У нас другие каштаны))
ReplyDeleteA culinary adventure, well done!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried to roast chestnuts, in fact I don't think I have ever tried them
ReplyDeleteWe used to have chestnuts "on every corner" here. Now, for some reason, they're not sold at all... And we always ate them raw. Then I tried flambéing them with caramel. An interesting and unusual flavor. And I didn't like the roasted ones sold on the street in Europe at all. Not my thing, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI watch TV. Or stream on my TV! Well done, Sandi!
ReplyDeleteWell done Sandi ... pleased you enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
My mom used to love roasted chestnuts.
ReplyDeleteBack in the day there were street vendors you could buy them from and the container was all toasty and warm. Perfect to warm your hands on on a cold day.
That's what I was going for, but I had to do it at home. 😃
DeleteEveryone should have at least one food review and yours is wonderfully unique!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cathy. 😊
DeleteI've never tried them.
