Feast
Now on the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
There's a Mel Brooks bit I saw some time back where he plays a waiter who comes into the Last Supper and asks how everyone's doing. And startles Judas in the process.
I remember the part where the waiter says, "Jesus Christ" in a profane manner, but Jesus turns around and answers, "Yes?" It was both sad and profound to my young ears. I remember that movie. I think I would not find it as funny these days, though. God bless you, William.
How many clues this painting hides. One of them is that Jesus and the disciples did not sit at a table with chairs, but on carpets. Then there is the letter V between Jesus and the character to his right indicating the symbol of fertility. And more
A few years ago, I was at a seder dinner honoring the Last Supper. The host pastor told us something I had not heard before. The disciple John was the youngest person there. Because of that, John sat next to Jesus. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
When we homeschooled, we would do a Messianic Passover Seder every year. I learned it from attending one hosted by a Messianic Jew, who explained all the seemingly unimportant details of the passages that describe the Last Supper. I wonder if people realize anymore, how important such symbolic traditions can be in shaping a society.
Hosanna! Glad Hosannas! The Little Children Sang...Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord!"
ReplyDeleteHosanna, Hosanna. Amen.
DeleteOf course as a table view goes, that's impractical, but Leonardo wasn't going to paint four or five disciples with their backs.
