Lost Sheep of the House of Israel

And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.

And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying,

“Have mercy on me, O Lord,

Son of David;

my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”

But he did not answer her a word.

And his disciples came and begged him, saying,

“Send her away, for she is crying out after us.”

He answered,

“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

But she came and knelt before him, saying,

 “Lord, help me.”

And he answered,

“It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.”

And her daughter was healed instantly.

Matthew 15:21-28

  1. I absolutely love this story about Jesus. So many wonderful things are shown about Him. He never turns anyone away, and He even commended her for her great faith. I can’t imagine how she felt as a mother. But He took care of her pain as well as her daughter’s suffering. Linda T

  3. I loved how you gave this post the title you did because while this is an amazing story of a humble Gentile woman's prayer for the healing of her daughter, it is so much more. I believe Jesus purposely make this"detour"...actually out the the way trip to Tyre and Sidon(Gentile territory) to meet up with this Canaanite woman, while the Word is clear He first came for the Jews. I am so very thankful He purposed to save Gentiles, too and to make "one new man" in Himself. (Ephesians 2:11-3:1-9)
    Blessings to you Sandi!

  5. I, too, am grateful that Jesus came for the Gentiles as well as for the Jews. Otherwise, I would be quite lost. Thank you for this reminder, Sandi. xx
