I think we've all heard the saying, "God helps those who help themselves."
It is not in the Bible. I don't think it's even true.
God helps those who said the wrong thing.
God helps those who don't know it was Him.
God helps those who did it. And those who didn't.
God helps you.
God helps me.
God helps the person who ran the red light.
Have you ever been the one who ran the red light?
God will help the person who hurt you
And He will help you.
God helps the person who made the mistake.
God helps the person who did it on purpose.
Your gracious love, Lord, reaches to the heavens;
your truth extends to the skies. Psalm 36:5-12
your truth extends to the skies. Psalm 36:5-12
I have always heard that saying, too, Sandi. I do think that we have to do the footwork on the path God lays out before us.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thursday. xo Diana
The Bible teaches the opposite. God helps the helpless! Isaiah 25:4 declares, "For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..." Source: https://www.gotquestions.org/God-help-themselves.html
ReplyDeleteI've heard that saying too, and I agree with you, it's all wrong. God helps His children who are in need, He helps His children who call on Him in times of trouble and He helps His children in their daily walk ~ wherever their walk takes them.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteTRUE! Glorious! Thank You Sandi (that was the bottom of a white blossom on my post - not a mushroom ;)
ReplyDeleteA proverb from Europe: God gives you, but He does not put in your luggage what he gives you. ;)
ReplyDeleteSandi, I believe that God helps those who ask persistently.
ReplyDeleteBlessed weekend :)
Oh MY I love this!!!! You wrote it? It is so TRUE and so beautiful! I run our church Prayer and Info Line. May I use this?? I would say it on the phone and also send it out on e-mail to our members. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteYes! By all means.
DeleteI wrote it this morning.
Sandi, it's so beautiful and insightful. I agree with everything you wrote with all my heart and soul.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Thank you, Kaya! God bless you too.
DeleteYes, it is a minion. I guess it would only work in a kid's room.
ReplyDelete:) I love the minions. I would hang it up!
DeleteYes, wonderful words, God Bless you!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to know that God is always there to help us all no matter what.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post.
Yes, God helps us all...even when we run a red light and didn't mean to, and thankfully no one hit anyone!! Praise God for that...and then I pray for the ability to stop in time... Yes, So thankful for God's abiding presence and help in time of need and beyond!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent reminders. You are right that that saying is not in the Bible. Wonder where it originated? Found this on-line: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_helps_those_who_help_themselves
ReplyDeleteProbably someone who wanted to think they were better than someone else.... ;-) oh, hahha, I sound bitter. Hehe
DeleteIt is wonderful to know that God is always there for us.
