Matthew 10:5-6

These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them,

“Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans,

but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

  1. Hi Sandi, as it says in the scriptures - 'Many shall fall away from the faith'.

    1. Brenda, I am not sure how that verse fits with these verses. Are you talking about the time of the Gentiles coming to an end?

    2. No Sandi, the scriptures say that the church is the Israel of God, so the lost sheep of Israel spiritually speaks about those who have come to the Lord but who have then fallen away from the faith. A person can not fall away from the faith unless they have 'faith'.

    5. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1:16

I think it means His own people. Jesus came first to the Jew, then the Gentile. Isaiah 53 is about Jesus, the Jewish Messiah. I do not believe the church has replaced the Jewish people.

      Which scripture do you mean?

      God bless you, Brenda.

    6. Galatians ch. 6 v. 26. The scriptures are discerned spiritually when we have come to the Lord, The lost sheep are the ones who have fallen away.

    7. Brenda, do you mean v. 16? I don't understand. Please explain it in more detail. Thanks.

    8. Yes, v. 16. I have always seen the scriptures spiritually and to me the lost sheep of Israel was referring spiritually to believers who have fallen away from the faith. Having faith refers to born again believers as you can only have faith in the body of Christ on earth. I believe Jesus is speaking about bringing the lost sheep who have gone away from Him back to Him in these times. That Word is the same yesterday, today and forever.

    9. Jesus is sending out the twelve disciples in this verse. Are you saying there were already believers who had fallen away?

    10. Matthew 9:35-36

And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

To me this sounds like people He had just begun teaching.

    11. That's right Sandi, and today this Word can speak to believers Spiritually, advising those who remain in Christ (disciples) to encourage those who have fallen away (the lost sheep of Israel). That is why the scriptures say that the Word is the same yesterday, today and forever, and that it is spiritually discerned to those who are in Christ. God bless.

  6. Now I'm able to set a comment! Wonderful blog!

Here in German a word of a pastor (Roland Bohnen) according this sentences from Matthäus:
    10,5ff:

Was ist meine Berufung, wohin sendest du mich?

    1. Thank you, Dori. Welcome to Dandelion Tea!

Blog readers who don't speak German, it says:

Matthew: 10.5ff: It is human that we always want to overdo ourselves. We always want more than we can create. That's why we complain almost every day that we can't get everything done, that it's all too much for us, that something new is always being added. You can no longer rest. This is because we cannot accept no. We can't stand it if someone said to us, "Don't do that now!" But Jesus is very specific. He gives us great authority, but only for a very limited task. We may wonder why we not feel that authority so much. Could it be because we don't move within the limits that Jesus gave us? If the disciples had wanted to work in Samaria, they would not have cast out a demon there, and not a single disease, and not a single one Afflictions healed. For Samaria they had no authority. I have to move within the limits of my calling, on my behalf, in what God has put on my heart. So we really need knowledge from God. What is my calling, where are you sending you me? What is the task for this day? I mustn't get bogged down. God doesn't work when I'm stressed, doesn't want to be able to do everything, doesn't want to be everywhere. God works when I'm ready to help myself limit to that Small, what really is my mission. But we need a lot of prayer, a lot of listening, to recognize his mission to us every day.

  8. I wish we would simply listen to his simple words and do them. That's all. I just wish people would love one another instead of judging one another. Helping one another instead of creating obstacles for those we don't understand. Jesus does not need us to enforce the rules. He needs us to love him and one another. God bless you

    2. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

      Matthew 11:28-30

Cloudia, the Lord gave me this verse for you. Why? I don't know. I hesitated to say the Lord gave me this verse for you because I thought that may sound weird to you. BUT He did and so now you know. 😀💙

  10. This instruction is part of Jesus' commissioning of the twelve apostles, who were primarily Jewish, to be his witnesses and to spread the gospel to the lost sheep of Israel, the people of his own nation. This was in line with the belief that Jesus was the promised Messiah to the Jewish people and the salvation was to come through the Jewish people first. It's important to note that this instruction was given in a specific historical context and should not be understood as a blanket statement or a permanent restriction on the spread of the gospel to non-Jewish people. Throughout the New Testament, we see that the message of Jesus was eventually shared with Gentiles and non-Jews, as the early Christian community began to understand that the salvation offered through Jesus was not limited to the Jewish people but for all people.
